Can Social Media in Adult Education Help with Student Follow-up?

Preconference session, Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Sunset | Branka Marceta, OTAN, CA, Penny Pearson, OTAN, CA
Social networking and media applications offer opportunities for adult education programs to reach potential learners who are not currently being served, as well as reinforcing and deepening communication with current students and those who left the program. There are also ideas about Facebook helping with NRS reporting. Additionally, social media allow for a timely and time-efficient way to update content. The presenters will demonstrate examples of how adult education programs, individual administrators and teachers use Facebook and other social media. Then participants will explore elements and settings in individual Facebook profiles and outline the process of interacting within a Facebook group. Participants will identify what it means to ‘like’ a page and why is it important for adult schools to have social media presence.
