E4 GO OER! GO OPEN! GO INNOVATION! GO OPPORTUNITIES!

Pacific Salon 4 9:30 am - 11:00 am Open session; Walk-ins welcome.
Presenters Penny Pearson OTAN, CA
Open Educational Resources (OER) have the potential to foster much needed change in education including encouraging innovation and creating lifelong learners. The White House and Department of Education launched the #GoOpen campaign and announced several commitments to encourage OER adoption in schools. Major foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation adopted policies to publish the work of their grantees under a Creative Commons license. Come join the discussion around using OER in adult education. Resources shared include where to find OER for your learners and online creation tools to create your own or modify someone else’s work. (It’s OK! They are licensed to allow modifications!) OER are not limited to educators. Learners also can create open educational resources to further their own learning. Bring your own device so you can explore on your own.
