EL Civics Resources by OTAN

The session focuses on EL Civics teaching resources available on and through the OTAN Web site. You will find online tools for preparing classroom activities, ideas on how to use the Internet in the classroom, and access to online lesson plans. The participants will identify the requirements for the annual Technology and Distance Learning Plan, provide feedback from this year’s process and discuss the results from last year. Tech Up Your Citizenship Class

Participants will identify many teacher-created online resources in the form of Web sites, blogs, podcasts, and more. Examples of activities and ideas will be presented on how to use these resources inside and outside of the classroom. The official USCIS Citizenship Resource Center will be explored. CASAS Citizenship assessments and COAPPS will be discussed.

Make your EL Civics Interactive

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use their tablets and a mirroring software (Reflector) to provide dynamic and fun instruction for EL Civics and Citizenship. Presenter will share apps used for Citizenship and Web sites used for EL Civics that work on tablets (Apple and Google). Participants will learn about the rich features in Google Docs to help with pronunciation for the speaking component of the Citizenship test. Participants will also learn how to use USA Learns to help ESL students pass the Citizenship test. Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices!

California Adult Education Courses

These are Moodle courses located on OTAN's California Adult Education Courses site. OTAN provides free hosting and training to adult education providers who want to offer online/blended learning opportunities to their learners. These courses may also be packaged for import to compatible course management systems.
